A client account handoff brief should let another recruiter understand the active search, the confirmed requirements, recent decisions, and the next commitments.

A client account handoff brief should let another recruiter understand the active search, the confirmed requirements, recent decisions, and the next commitments. Keep it focused on what the new owner needs to do rather than copying an entire meeting history.

## Build the handoff around current state

| Section | What to include |
| --- | --- |
| Search objective | Role and current approved brief version |
| Client decisions | Requirements or process changes with dates |
| Candidate activity | Current stage and next agreed action |
| Dependencies | Information or approval still needed |
| Ownership | New owner, backup, and handoff date |

Link to authorized source records where appropriate. The handoff should summarize the current state while leaving a path to the evidence behind it.

## Separate history from instructions

Fictional example: the client originally asked for three office days and later approved two. The new owner needs the current two-day requirement and a dated reference to the change. A chronological list without a current-state summary makes them work out which instruction applies.

Similarly, distinguish a candidate who has been introduced from one merely discussed internally. Use the agency's actual stage definitions rather than informal language that might imply an external action occurred.

## Reconcile promises before transferring ownership

Review outstanding client responses, candidate updates, and scheduled meetings. Confirm that the receiving person knows which commitments are time-sensitive. A handoff is incomplete if the source documents are accessible but nobody owns the next action.

Where the outgoing recruiter lacks an answer, record the question plainly. Do not make the brief sound complete by replacing uncertainty with an assumption. The receiving person should know exactly what to verify.

## Walk through one live search

Use a short internal review to test whether the recipient can identify the next step, find the approved brief, and explain an important decision. If they cannot, improve the handoff rather than simply adding more pages.

The [client intake record](/blog/recruitment-client-intake-template) and [brief change log](/blog/recruiting-search-brief-change-log) supply the underlying context. Recruit Recap can organize supported meeting conversations into custom write-ups, but this handoff framework is an editorial process. It does not establish automatic account transfer, record permissions, or client communication features in the product.
